So Much For Service...

Today after church I called a family that was unable to come because they were all home sick with the flu or something really unpleasant that is closely related. I asked them if I could help them in any way and then offered to bring over dinner for the chidren who were not throwing up and anyone else who thought they could stomach it. I also stopped and got 7-up for the ones who couldn't eat. I was feeling pretty good about helping someone out and also very happy that I only had to bring one child with me because Greg didn't resist to letting 2 of them stay home with him. This feeling of peace was short lived. As I walked in the door I was greated by this grinning face...

This would have been fine, even kind of cute and amazing that she was actually trying to apply the lipstick to her lips. It was not this cute face that caused my peaceful feelings of charitable service to turn to panic and horror. It was THIS...
Yes, that is lipstick smeared and ground into the carpet. It was/is much worse than it looks. I scrubbed and scrubbed and faded it quite a bit but, I fear it will be a life long reminder of the service I did for a family in need. Oh, the blessings are just so sweet.

FYI:
When left responsible for a 1 year old, one must actually watch child with eyes open, checking frequently as to what the child is doing. Silence is not a sign of relief but, rather a sign of warning that nothing good is going on.

  1. Oh yes, we've been there and done that...I have to say since we've done both that red chap stick has nothing on red nail polish, you've just got to remind yourself that the blessings of service are eternal!
